Custom Camps

Custom Camps

We’ve been putting on hockey camps for adults since 2003, and over this time, we have received many requests to do camps in specific locations, or specific types of camps.  The custom camp is our way of making this a reality.

If you are interested in our custom camps, please complete our questionnaire:

Custom Camp FAQ:

What is a Custom Camp?

In short, a custom camp is anything you want it to be.  It can be as simple as one of our standard camps put on at your location of choice, or it can be highly specialized to whatever your group wants it to be.    Here are some ideas:

Groups: It can be just your team or organization, it can be an all women’s group, or it can be only players of a specific skill/ability level.  You decide.

Curriculum: It can be our standard curriculum, or a more customized curriculum.  More skating or less skating.  More shooting, passing, stick handling?  Maybe you are all accomplished skaters, and you just want drills that focus on team play.  It could be run like team practices.  For instance, it could be two teams that each get coached through practices focusing on team play, and then the two teams play each other in games.  Maybe you would like video review of certain skills like shooting or skating?  Or in depth analysis of positioning and team play?  Power play and penalty kill?  Really whatever you want.  You name it, and we will design the curriculum for your specific needs.

Format: Our standard camps all start on Thursday afternoon/evening and end Sunday morning, and feature 12 hours of ice time, as well as off-ice chalk talks and video review sessions, and social activities.  This is a generic formula that has served us well for many years.  But we can do whatever you like.  You can pick the rink, the dates, the days of the week, the number of hours on the ice and the length of the ice sessions.  You can decide what, if any, learning we are doing off the ice.  Do you want more social events?  Fewer?  None at all?  It’s all up to your group.

How many players do we need?

This is probably the most common question we get.  But the custom camp concept flips the usual script on this, because the answer is up to you. As far as we’re concerned, the answer could be just 1 player, if they were willing to pay for the whole thing.  The difference between the custom camp concept and our normal camps is that we are shifting some of the organizational responsibility on to the person or organization that wants to host the camp.  So you decide the group size.  Just realize that there is a direct relationship between number of players and cost per player.

How Much Does It Cost?

The answer to this question depends on many factors, such as: Ice and meeting space costs, the cost of travel and lodging for our staff, the number of hours on the ice, degree of specialization of the curriculum, costs for social activities, and other factors.  The bottom line is that each custom camp will be different, and we will have to provide a quote based on each individual situation.  We have created a questionnaire (hot link that word to the questionnaire) that will help us gather the necessary information for determining cost.    But if you want a rough idea, let’s say approximately $25,000 for up to 25 players.

Can I just suggest a location and let Weekend Warriors run with it?

If you tell us that you think one of our camps would do great in your location because you have 300 or 3,000 or 3,000,000 adult hockey players in your organization, and you think we should bring a camp there, then we will say, thanks, have nice day.  End of story.  You or someone in your organization is going to have to do some work AND make a financial commitment.

I would like to bring a custom camp to our rink, what do I have to do?

Fill out our questionnaire (hot link this, or maybe just put questionnaire at bottom of page).  This will get the process started with us, as well as get you thinking about what is involved.

What are the financial and other commitments?

This is one of the primary differences between our legacy camps and a custom camp.  In our traditional camps, we research locations, take surveys, and try to determine which locations will be successful.  The custom camp is completely different.  You and your group are the decision makers.  You decide not just the location, dates, curriculum and format of the camp, you also decide whether or not you can get enough players to make it happen.  So be prepared to do some legwork.  Your organization is also going to have to make a financial commitment in advance.  Below is how the process should flow:

Step 1: Complete the questionnaire.  Before doing so, we recommend that you first have conversations with both the members of your organization, as well as the rink at which you are proposing to host the camp.  Feel free to give us a call, either before or during the time you are having these conversations.  We are happy to answer your questions and provide guidance.

Step 2: We will respond, likely with some follow-up questions.  Then we will provide a quote, including a payment schedule.

Step 3: If your group decides to move forward, we will ask for a deposit.  Once we get that deposit, we will set up the event on our website.  You can then let the people in your organization know that they can register.  We can decide if you want them to pay Weekend Warriors directly when they register, or pay your organization.  In the latter case, their registration would just be their information so we would have it.  We can work out a payment method that makes the most sense for your organization.
